The server has roughly six people at the moment. Of those six, only 3-4 are building/maintaining the server. We are looking for a few more to help build before the server is officially released, so let us know if you're interested.

Starting Out Our server isn't exactly what you'd call a role-playing server, though it does share some qualities as one. When you first start out you are given a room at the Inn, "free of charge". You'll have to remember which is yours for the time being.
Around the city, there are houses available for "purchase". They aren't bought with a tangible currency of any kind - instead, there bought using a (simple) point system. Each house available has a point value you have to reach before you can get it. Once you've gained enough points to get one, you can accumulate more points for either expanding on your house by building more rooms (Probably a point or two each room) or buying weapons/armor/equipment from other players.

Expanding the server, and building your own houses
One question, which we've found everyone wonders, is whether or not you can build your own houses. The answer is YES. It's one of the reasons you bought Minecraft to begin with, so we can't exactly force you not to. However, we'd like to maintain a "style" in the city. So, to work around it, the following rule was put in place:
You may build your own houses (city, even) as long as it's off the mainland the main city is on. If you feel you have a design that fits the theme of the city, and can scout a location it would fit in, ask an admin and you may be given permission to build right in the city.
Plans for the future
As of right now we have the main city, a village starting off a ways and location for another city to be built. Overall, it's not a lot of area covered, and for good reason.
What we hope to have later on is cities all over the "world", specifically once Notch introduces biomes to the game. For those who don't know, Notch plans to add different environments that can generate in a single world (Current grassland, winter zones, swampland and possibly deserts). As we expand out and discover new terrains, we'd build major cities in each one. Each city would have a different style, some more formal, some just crazy.
